Vendetta Online V1.8.180 [Tegra 2 Required]
Requirements: Android
Overview: Vendetta Online is a graphically intensive MMORPG set in space. Players take the role of spaceship pilots in a vast, persistent online galaxy. Trade between stations and build an empire, or pirate traders who dare to pursue routes through areas of lawless space. Fight other players, or cooperate with friends to push back the mysterious Hive. Mine ores and minerals, gather resources, and craft unusual items. Join the military of your nation, and participate in massive online battles (see the trailer). A wide variety of gameplay styles are available, from the the intensity of huge battles and realtime PvP, to the low-key enjoyment of quiet trading and mining in less dangerous areas of the galaxy. Play the style of game that suits you, or that suits your current mood. The availability of relatively casual and short-term goals allows for fun when only a little time is available to play.

[break]

Vendetta Online is a subscription-based title, with a recurring cost of between $7 and $10 per month. Although the game is available for Mac, Windows and Linux (all versions play within the same galaxy), the Android version includes several exclusive benefits:
- Single-Player "Free Play" mode: after completing the tutorial, a free-play sandbox sector becomes available, letting you perfect your flying technique and enjoy minigames while offline. This feature will be expanded in future patches, and will permanently be available to anyone with the game installed, regardless of whether they ever choose to subscribe. Enjoy!
- Special extended trial period of 16 hours of in-game time. Play an hour a day for 16 days, or 16 hours all at once, it's up to you. No strings attached, find out if the game is for you.
- "Demo" mode: an extensive demonstration of pre-recorded network play, showing off the graphics and content that become available in Vendetta Online. This is completely realtime, and uses the game engine, it is not a video.
System requirements and recommendations:
- NVIDIA Tegra-based tablet, 7-inches or larger, preferably running Android Honeycomb (Froyo or better required), such as the Motorola Xoom.
- We recommend 500MB of free SD space. The game itself uses about 250MB, but also self-updates and patches itself outside of the Android Market, so additional free space is advised.
- We suggest installing over Wifi (for the large download), but playing the game itself should use relatively little bandwidth, and works well over most 3G networks. As always, you are responsible for monitoring your own bandwidth usage.
Caveats and Additional Information:
- The tablet flight interface takes a little time to learn, although it is effective with some experience. There are also additional options which may be enabled, such as accelerometer control (tilt-to-steer), etc. The flight UI will be continually improved over the coming weeks, as we receive user feedback.
- The current Android build uses the menu interface from the PC version of the game. This involves scrollbars and interface elements that, while fully functional, are not as polished of a touchscreen experience as we would like. Development of an improved menu interface for touch devices is ongoing, and existing builds will be patched and upgraded when it is available.
- We are a continually evolving game, often with patches released every week. Our users are encouraged to help the game development process by posting to the Suggestions and Android forums of our website, http://www.vendetta-online.com . If you like the game, but want to see improvements to a certain aspect, and have a good idea of what would help, please bring it to our attention. We expect to continually refine and improve the Android version, and the game itself, for a long time to come.
- Integrated voice chat is not yet present on the Android version, but we expect it to be added in the next few weeks. Voice chat will be compatible across all versions, so you will be able to talk to friends on PCs or Macs, etc.

Bug Wings treads the careful line between being relaxing yet also challenging

Overall Rating: 3.81 out of 5 stars

Bug Wings offers a casual gaming experience that actually feels quite soothing. At least assuming that players are using the tilt based controls. Touch based controls provide an all together more frustrating experience.

In Bug Wings, players must navigate ladybirds across each stage, attempting to collect all the missing pollen as they go, eventually safely landing on flowers or lily pads. This is done by first catapulting the ladybird across the screen then tapping to unleash their wings, thus enabling the bugs to glide around the arena.

It’s an interesting experience combining both a calming serenity and a competitive urge to do better. It’s the ideal game to play with family members or children because of this. The tilt controls are immediately intuitive making it simple and accurate to carefully glide around. That’s not to say it is easy though. It’s a careful process to attempt to collect everything possible and land just fine. While it’ll be relatively simple to acquire one star in each stage, it’s a very different matter for those players who want to get all three stars.

Offering a typical casual game unlocking style, there are 24 levels in all, unlocked gradually according to how well players have progressed in previous stages. While early levels are quite basic, later levels come with power ups and other bonuses to enthrall.

There’s also the fun of a party mode allowing for up to 4 players to compete in a mission to get the best high score, further enhancing the potential for a great family game.

The only limitation with Bug Wings is that of its touch based controls. They’re just not very good, removing much of the control that stems from the tilt controls. It’s a relatively small irritant but relying on tilt based controls does mean that Bug Wings won’t be a great game to play while on the move.

Regardless of this though, Bug Wings is a great calming experience. It’s relaxing to just fly around and it’s amazing how just going with the flow can immediately improve scores. It’s an ideal game to chill out to while still feeling that great competitive edge.

It’s safe to say that the app store isn’t short of list making apps. If I had a dollar for every list making app I’ve ever tried, I’d be a very rich woman indeed. Use Your Handwriting GOLD offers something rather special though. The clue’s in the name. Yes, it allows users to create their lists via writing the words on themselves.

Rather than having to rely upon the iOS popup keyboard, users simply write in their customary style. It takes a little bit of practice writing without the aid of a pen but it immediately feels so much more natural and faster than typing the words out.

The app is designed in a way to accomodate those who write largely with the iPhone display moving across as and when the user runs out of space. It’s possible to set up 10 different lists in all, easily switched around whenever needed. Writing is as simple as ever with a whole wealth of options for users to adjust things just how they like. Nib flexibility can be adjusted for instance, affecting how the writing looks. Writing speed can also be adjusted and the app can be switched to left-handed mode. Most useful of all is the ability for notes to be automatically added to the clipboard, slowing down performance times but making it a great way of adding notes elsewhere quickly. Besides that neat trick, users can also always email, Facebook, MMS or create an image out of each list for future reference.

There’s also the ability to set items as high priority so that they blink noticeably at the user, as well as the opposite being true with low priority tasks. It makes for a great way of consulting quickly what needs doing next. I’ve no doubt on the iPad, it would look even more impressive.

Use Your Handwriting GOLD is a great way of keeping lists organised, while being easily accessible for all users. The fact it’s only currently $0.99 for an universal and useful list creation app makes it a no brainer for anyone keen to get their life and To Do lists organised.

    Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunting Review

Our Rating: ★★★½☆ :: SHORTLIVED FUN
iPhone App - Designed for the iPhone, compatible with the iPad

Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunting offers a simplified version of the hugely popular Monster Hunter franchise.

    Developer: Capcom
    Price: $4.99
    Version Reviewed: 1.0
    Device Reviewed On: iPhone 4

Graphics / Sound Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Gameplay Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Replay Value Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.69 out of 5 stars

Condensing such a huge and complex concept as those seen in the Monster Hunter series is a big task to ask of any iOS developer. While Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunting does a great job of providing the key elements to the game and simplifying the whole process, it is to the detriment of those hoping for as challenging an experience as previous installments. It does make for a great starting block though.

Each Monster Hunter game comes down to a mixture of exploration and attacking monsters, just like the title suggests. In the case of Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunting, the focus is solely on attacking the monsters. Each quest is limited to fighting the monster and determining the best strategy for success within the time limit. Players are then graded in the customary Monster Hunter way and they can acquire rewards in the form of items so that they can go on to upgrade weaponry and armour for future missions.

It’s a sound system and a wise choice to focus on the key elements within the series but it is a disappointment to see that there are only 12 monsters in all to defeat and some of these are merely variations of previous creatures. For players just looking to bash their way through the stages, there’s not a huge amount of game time here. However the main reason to replay is a strong one with grades being improved upon and thus offering up new rewards.

The control system is an important one here and Monster Hunter Dynamic Fighting provides some mixed results. It makes the wise move of avoiding a button based control method, instead focusing on gestures akin to Infinity Blade’s. The problem lies in its confusion between certain moves. Simple taps do the job and quick swipes but when moves get more complex, that’s where Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunting falls down a little. For instance, two fingers sliding evades and dodges but if the player swipes them instead, an attack move is invoked.

For these reasons, Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunting does feel a tad expensive for what it offers. It’s fun while it lasts but the experience is all too short, with replaying to perfect stages suffering from the less than perfect control system. It does however make for a great introduction to the series and should hopefully make some newbies itching to try out one of the many console iterations. Fans of the series might feel disappointed at the limited nature of the game though.
