Get Ready to Dust Those Bunnies!

To arms! The battle for cleanliness has begun anew, and it’s up to us to do our part in this war. Dust bunnies are everywhere; clogging up vacuums, massing under beds and waiting for the perfect time to strike. I say we need to strike first. We as a people need to band together and Dust Those Bunnies!

Okay, it’s a little campy but this game looks fun. From the minds of Utah-based Gamers Rejoice, Dust Those Bunnies! puts players in charge of some of the most devastating anti-dust weaponry (brooms, vacuum cleaners, etc.) and lets them loose the dogs of war all over the little buggers. It boasts two game modes, Wage War and Commando, both requiring players to sweep those dusty critters into a dustpan for victory. Wage War is more like a “full” game, with access to a full arsenal and the threat of dustpan-destroying bunny bombs. Commando is a bit less strenuous, with no bombs but also none of the fancy stuff found in Wage War. It’s just the player, a broom and the bunnies.

It’s too soon to predict whether or not Dust Those Bunnies! will find itself on a notable page in the App Store anytime soon, but it certainly looks to be doing its part. The black and white film reel visuals are a cute touch, too. Be sure to give it a look.

Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Players will have a good time piloting their ship past waves of attacking alien ships.

Galactic Striker is an updated take on the classic space shooter and while the gameplay is very similar, it has it’s own unique look and rhythm. First, Galactic Striker employs 3D graphics which allow for a more versatile perspective. Instead of the standard top-down view, the developers have opted to take advantage of their 3D graphics and use an isometric perspective. Also, the developers have chosen to limit the movement of the player’s ship to one direction. By tilting the device players can move their ship back and forth to dodge enemy ships and attacks. However, the ship stays put in a fixed spot at the bottom of the screen and is unable to move forward or backward.

The action in Galactic Striker takes place in a long lane where the player ship moves forward and enemy ships rush up to meet it from the top of the screen. This lane is straight and the player’s ship moves forward at a constant pace. The challenge comes from trying to move the ship back and forth to avoid obstacles like asteroids or enemy ships and attacks. Most obstacles move in a straight line down the lane from top to bottom, but things like lasers and missiles can move back and forth in the lane to make things more tricky.

The ship’s weapons auto-fire and the player can choose from three types of weapons: lasers, rockets, or plasma guns. Each weapon fires differently and has it unique strengths. In each level, players will find power-ups that will increase the power, size, or rate of fire of a certain weapon. Unfortunately, at the start of every level, the ship’s weapons reset to their lowest level and the player must power them up again level after level.

The games visuals are disappointingly uninspired, but they do the job. The game’s main character, Jack Panic, banters with the enemy forces at the beginning and end of each level and his lines run the gamut from quirky one liners to B-movie script rejects. It adds some character to the game and becomes a little pay off for progression. Galactic Striker isn’t the most inventive or flashy shooter out there but it has some interesting points and is fun to play. Just don’t go quoting it to any friends.

Five For Friday: Week of August 26

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. In order to provide a sustainable, best of the breed RSS to Email experience, we've chosen to keep this as a paid subscription service. If you are satisfied with your free trial, please sign-up today. Subscriptions without a plan would soon be removed. Thank you!

This week saw a mixed bag of new apps. As back-to-school and real life settles in around us, more general use, connectivity and educational titles have been popping up. Here’s our look at five hot releases from the past week that you may have missed. If we skipped one you love, be sure to let us know.

SB Nation – Sports News

SB Nation aggregates one thing only – sport news. It culls from over 300 sport-dedicated blogs with in-depth stories, fan perspectives and real-time news. The newsfeed has scores from the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, Soccer, Nascar, MMA, Tennis, Golf and college ball – both round and bouncy and the type they have bowl games for. Users can follow their favortie stories, personalize the app to focus on home teams or specific sports, and it even has a community to share opinion, comments and other sports info with the similarly obsessed.

 WordWit

WordWit is edutainment for big kids. Word lovers and those struggling with vocabulary alike can profit from this app. It is not a traditional dictionary – rather each word's entry is written specifically for WordWit to reveal "nuances of meaning and use." The entertainment part of the equation is mixed with rich graphics and challenges like separating misused words from their "evil twins" – all it takes is a spin on the colorful spiral to reveal random pairings of words and a myriad of ways to explore them both.

Infinity Field

Infinity Field HD has been a long time iPad hit. This dual stick shooter won many best-in-class awards last year and now it has finally been released for the iPhone and iPod touch. The game looks as good as the original, just designed with support for retina display and smaller controls – which reports say are as good as ever.

Post-it PopNotes

It had to happen – in an app store full of knock off's, 3M has finally brought the real Post-it's to iOS and they've done it for free. This is not just a sticky note app – PopNotes can be shared selectively, set to pop at specific times, supports both typing and handwriting and even incorporates maps and GPS.

CoolApp for Google+

Google+ has its own iPhone only app, which has a lot of users very frustrated. Well, CoolApp for Google+ brings the popular new social networking site to iOS for all devices. Aside from the iPad and iPod touch support, it offers a free invite – easier and easier to come by these days, but still needed to join – with purchase. The app supports up to three accounts with ease.

Naught:
Naught takes the gravity physics game into the monochrome world, and then adds in a cutesy cat as the hero. Players are challenged with tilting, rotating, and probably throwing their devices as they try to navigate this perilous world of dark and scary creatures. Those who would rather keep their sanity can choose from two other control schemes, but that would dilute the fun and frustration of this artistically beautiful game.

Monster Mouth DDS:
Let’s face it, nobody enjoys going to the dentist and sitting in a chair while their teeth get blasted, scraped, and cleaned all in the name of good health. However, those players that have an itch to fill the role of a mad dentist finally have the perfect opportunity. The only downside is that instead of cleaning somewhat palatable human teeth, players get the joys of scrubbing some nasty monster mouths, full of plaque, slime, and weird creature like cavities. This is not a game for those with a weak stomach, that much is for sure.

Billiard Chain:
Players addicted to games like Zuma, yet needed something a little different have a nice surprise. Billiard Chain takes the familiarity of Zuma, but paints it with a fun billiard setting. Players will be using a pool cue to launch their balls into a non-stop stream of cue balls. Even better, there is no need to head to a smokey bar, or fend off the local drunk with a chair in this game. Safety is our number one concern, after all!

KungFu Food:
Those players that are sick of slicing fruits and veggies, yet still need to get their samurai action on need not look any further. KungFu Food is all about slicing and dicing food, only this time it is junk food like cola, burgers, steaks, and even salads. Those who are counting calories can even play Calorie Mode and shed fat….virtually.

Emissary of War:
Players take on the role of an emissary who has but one last mission in their journey to complete. A single treaty that needs to be brokered is all that remains, yet life has a way of screwing this up. It is now up to the player to hack and slash their way through legions of mercenaries and monsters who want nothing more than to put the hero in a six foot deep hole. Who will save this troubled land?

Monster Mouth DDS Review

Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Tackle some epic monsters and try to tame their teeth in this procedural dentistry game.

Graphics / Sound Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars

Monster Mouth DDS is a free to play game where the first three levels are unlocked and an addition seven levels can be unlocked for $0.99 via in-app purchase. In Monster Mouth DDS, the player acts as the unlikely dentist to a variety of monsters. It’s the player’s job to clean these monster’s teeth, investigate trouble spots, and repair any damage needed in a limited amount of time. They must also perform these tasks without hurting the monsters too much, because like anyone else who has sat in a dentist’s chair these monsters aren’t very excited about having their mouths poked and prodded either.

The game progresses in 10 levels. Each level consists of cleaning and repairing the teeth of a different monster. To do this, players make use of various dentists tools which they can select and then use on a tooth by touching that tooth with their finger. Care is needed though, because if you use the wrong tool on a tooth at the wrong time the monster will get hurt. The monster can only get hurt three times and on the third time the player fails that level. The different dental tasks that are required in each level must be completed in order and with the right tools or the level will be failed. For instance, a tooth must be brushed clean before a cavity can be repaired. Once all the teeth in the monster’s mouth have been cared for, the level is complete. Based on the amount of time it took to complete the level the player will receive a rating out of five stars.

The monsters and their disgusting mouths are beautifully animated, which adds so much to the enjoy of the game. The monsters react to the procedures the players are performing and emote accordingly. Sometimes the teeth are so well animated that it’s a little difficult not too feel a little squeamish, but the action is cartoony enough that the feeling doesn’t last long.

Monster Mouth DDS is a great game and players will have a wonderful time caring for these monsters. Hopefully the developer is working on more content because 10 levels won’t take very long to complete, even if there is an option to go back and improve a score.
