Bug Wings offers a casual gaming experience that actually feels quite soothing. At least assuming that players are using the tilt based controls. Touch based controls provide an all together more frustrating experience.

In Bug Wings, players must navigate ladybirds across each stage, attempting to collect all the missing pollen as they go, eventually safely landing on flowers or lily pads. This is done by first catapulting the ladybird across the screen then tapping to unleash their wings, thus enabling the bugs to glide around the arena.

It’s an interesting experience combining both a calming serenity and a competitive urge to do better. It’s the ideal game to play with family members or children because of this. The tilt controls are immediately intuitive making it simple and accurate to carefully glide around. That’s not to say it is easy though. It’s a careful process to attempt to collect everything possible and land just fine. While it’ll be relatively simple to acquire one star in each stage, it’s a very different matter for those players who want to get all three stars.

Offering a typical casual game unlocking style, there are 24 levels in all, unlocked gradually according to how well players have progressed in previous stages. While early levels are quite basic, later levels come with power ups and other bonuses to enthrall.

There’s also the fun of a party mode allowing for up to 4 players to compete in a mission to get the best high score, further enhancing the potential for a great family game.

The only limitation with Bug Wings is that of its touch based controls. They’re just not very good, removing much of the control that stems from the tilt controls. It’s a relatively small irritant but relying on tilt based controls does mean that Bug Wings won’t be a great game to play while on the move.

Regardless of this though, Bug Wings is a great calming experience. It’s relaxing to just fly around and it’s amazing how just going with the flow can immediately improve scores. It’s an ideal game to chill out to while still feeling that great competitive edge.
