Space Leap mixes ambience and relaxation with the usual puzzle format as players catapult a planet around space using gravity.

Space Leap is the latest title to hit the iPhone from Pakistani developers we.R.play; it takes hints from many successful puzzle-based games on the platform. However it also adds a little ambience into the mix, akin to something like Osmos — but can a mixture of mind-numbing puzzles and blissful relaxation really work in the same recipe? Let’s see.

As the name suggests, Space Leap is set in space. That’s the obvious part, and this particular ‘space’ is very well presented — a combination of beatiful but dark backdrops alongside bright and colorful foreground objects — but let’s get to the ‘leap’, that’s the fun part. The player’s job is to get an Earth-like planet from within the orbit of one star to that of another navigating around asteroids, nebulae and other things you might found in outer space. A big, yellow Sun-like star is the destination of the planet as it loops and catapults its way between gravity fields.

It takes a bit of getting used to and while there’s no need to rush through (planning certainly helps), there’s a time bonus on offer — plus it’s doing it quickly that really gives a great feeling of self satisfaction. There’s also a few little extras to help improve a high score, those being three smaller and darker stars spread throughout each level — collecting all of these, while not necessary to progress, will certainly give a boost up the leaderboards somewhat. This is where the game’s longevity comes in, not only with leaderboards and achievements across both Game Center and Open Feint, but the fact it always feels as though a level could’ve been finished more efficiently or completely. This offers an incentive to replay, as will the promised future updates that’ll increase the number of levels which currently sits at fourty-three.

It’s great gameplay, and there’s plenty of it there, meaning that for just 99 cents Space Leap is worthy of anyboy’s attention. And to answer my inital question about the relaxation stuff working — it does. There’s some real nice ambient music in there, which complinents the gameplay by really focusing one’s heart, body and mind. Ok, maybe not that extreme, but I believe most will get my drift. Definitely give Space Leap a look.

Apple Revises Much-Ballyhooed Subscription Rules

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. Apple has made a rare flip on their policies, particularly in regard to their subscription rules introduced back in February. The rules (as written then) would require apps that offer subscription services to also sell the subscriptions through the App Store, with Apple to take their customary 30% cut; this would also apply to apps like Kindle and Nook, where the books they sold would have to run through Apple’s system as well. This could have had some very chilling effects on the future of subscription services’ apps on iOS, particularly services that were already operating with low overhead.

However, Apple has largely rescinded these rules, allowing for apps to continue to offer access to media and subscriptions without offering to sell them through the App Store as well. However, Apple has changed a policy to where apps cannot offer a link to buy these subscriptions and media through the app. This means that the Kindle app will likely have to remove its button to open up the Amazon web site to buy books. However, services like Netflix would not have to risk choosing between the sizable iOS user base and starting to give Apple a 30% cut of their subscription fees for subscriptions purchased in the app itself.

For those looking to start using Apple’s in-app subscription model, it appears that Apple has offered them a reprieve as well. Previously, according to Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines rule 11.13, “Apps can read or play approved content (magazines, newspapers, books, audio, music, video) that is sold outside of the app, for which Apple will not receive any portion of the revenues, provided that the same content is also offered in the app using IAP at the same price or less than it is offered outside the app. This applies to both purchased content and subscriptions.” This price requirement has been removed, so hypothetically apps could raise their subscription prices on iOS in order to compensate for Apple’s 30% cut.

The modification of these subscription rules will ultimately be good for developers and users; if left in place, they could have made releasing apps on iOS an unprofitable decision, limiting the potential of iOS devices solely because Apple felt like taking a cut from developers. This move is ultimately good for all parties involved, and Apple stepping down on this requirement shows that they are willing to listen to the outrage from their community.

The Kids Are All Right: Nic and Jules are in a long term, committed, loving but by no means perfect relationship. Nic, a physician, needs to wield what she believes is control, whereas Jules, under that control, is less self-assured. During their relationship, Jules has floundered in her "nine to five" life, sometimes trying to start a business - always unsuccessfully - or being the stay at home mom. She is currently trying to start a landscape design business. They have two teen-aged children, Joni and Laser, Nic who is Joni's biological mother, and Jules who is Laser's biological mother. Although not exact replicas, each offspring does more closely resemble his/her biological mother in temperament. Joni and Laser are also half-siblings, having the same unknown sperm donor father. Shortly after Joni's eighteenth birthday and shortly before she plans to leave the house and head off to college, Laser, only fifteen and underage to do so, pleads with her to try and contact their sperm donor father. Somewhat reluctantly, she does. He is late thirty-something Paul, a co-op farmer and restaurateur. Despite his seemingly successful businesses, Paul has always shirked responsibility, most specifically in his personal life. After Joni and Laser meet with Paul, Nic and Jules learn what their children have done, and although they don't want Paul infiltrating their lives, they want to meet him especially as Joni and Laser seem to want to maintain some sort of relationship with him. As Paul's relationship with the entire family grows, which also includes him hiring Jules to design and construct his back yard, they have an effect on what he wants in life, and he in turn affects the family dynamic as well as each person's relationships outside of the family.

Don’t worry, this isn’t some Farmville knockoff, and the only harvesting happening in this game will be players digging around for a few spare minutes to play more.

Anyone that has ever bitten into a piece of fruit only to find a little worm friend hiding inside will know the shock and disgust an experience like that can cause. Take a moment to consider, though, how that piece of fruit felt. It probably didn’t enjoy having a worm inside of it any more than that person enjoyed finding the worm in there. In Battle Harvest players fight to save fruits and veggies from an invading army of worms called the Wormwits led by Nephridus an evil spirit-turned-worm-monster.

Each level of the game begins with a grid in which various fruits and vegetables stack up against their squirmy foes. Wormwits will burrow up from the bottom of the screen into the lowest fruits and veggies. The game unfolds in turns and the player can move one fruit each turn. By matching fruits the player can strategically arrange the board in order to match the fruits containing the Wormwits, destroying them. The Wormwits will continue to climb up chewing through a new fruit each turn, turning them into rotting Rotlings as they go. The fruits and vegetables turned into Rotlings take on a nasty new appearance and will award no points when the are matched. The Rotlings will also grow noxious roots which will block off areas of the grid and allow Wormwits to climb higher and faster to reach new fruits and veggies.

As matches are made, a meter fills. Each time the meter fills, a hero fruit or vegetable is dropped onto the board where it’s special ability can be used to accomplish various things like clearing a rows, columns, or certain areas of the board, or knocking all of the Wormwits and roots off of the board momentarily. There isn’t much variation from level to level, but there are some “boss fights” that make interesting use of the hero fruits and vegetables and freshen the game up every now and then.

There is a story mode where players play through various levels and worlds. There is an invasion mode which pits players against endless waves of Wormwits to hold out as long as they can. There is also a recruit mode which is basically a puzzle mode where players have to match a preset formation of fruits and veggies in a certain number of moves.

The animations of the fruits, vegetables, and Wormwits are superb, and watching fruits transition to Rotlings as Wormwits eat through them is one of the best parts of the game. The puzzles can get a bit repetitive, but there are plenty of game modes to switch things up when needed. This is one game that won’t be rotting away in some forgotten folder.

валяный шарф...

Дома у них как раз живет большой рыжий кот Степка. Кот правда ужасно вредный и царапучий, но тем не менее – любимый всем семейством. Долго я гадала, какой шарф мне свалять.
