When one thinks of zombies, one might not necessarily think of them as proper pets. After all, their desire for brains and tenaciousness in attempts to acquire them makes them difficult to maintain as pets. Brains aren’t easy to acquire, and they don’t care if they eat the brains of the caretaker; they’re zombies, all they want are brains! My Pet Zombie from Riptide Games is out to shatter the hurtful stereotypes about pet zombies that I have just espoused.

My Pet Zombie is a free-to-play app where the player can decorate a zombie of their very own with their choice of hairstyles and clothes. The player must keep the zombie energized, fed, and happy, because a disgruntled, hungry, and unenergized zombie will try to eat brains. The player can play minigames with their zombies to help energize them and earn experience. Zombie Director is a memory game, where the player must repeat back the zombie’s actions through a series of gestures. Zombie Talkback allows the zombie to repeat back whatever the player records. It’s also possible to take a picture with the zombie in it, so the pet zombie can show up in real-world locations.

Players can buy bones through in-app purchases that can go toward items used to feed the zombie, or decorate him or her in new fashions, along with acquiring new scenery for the zombie to inhabit. If the player ignores their zombie, they return to the cold, dirt comfort of their grave, though reviving them…or at least making them rise from their grave and become undead again is easy. I have to imagine being constantly reanimated is a traumatic experience, though, so players of My Pet Zombie shouldn’t let it happen a lot, lest they seek to torture their pet zombie. My Pet Zombie is available as a free universal app from the App Store.

Bungie Blesses Fan-Made Marathon Port For iPad

For those of you that are not familiar, the date July 7th every year holds quite a bit of significance in the eyes of game developer Bungie.  Celebrated by fans every year as “Bungie Day” it is a time when the studio takes time to look back on the legacy of their work and provide special surprises for their diehard supporters.

This year they decided to do something different, and support a fan-initiated initiative to bring the Mac classic Marathon to the iPad.  Developed completely by hardcore enthusiasts of the original game, Bungie awarded their diligence by publishing the game personally and throwing all of their support behind it.

The base game, which contains the entirety of the single player campaign is completely free.  Available as in-app purchases to augment the experience, you can also choose to add in a $3.99 high definition texture pack, or a $0.99 God mode, aptly named “Master Chief” mode.  Give this classic game another look on your iPad.  I can personally guarantee that this will be one that everyone can enjoy.

Xtreme Wheels Review

iPhone App - Designed for the iPhone, compatible with the iPad

Xtreme Wheels is a fun and physics-heavy dirt bike stunt course with a few pitfalls.

Okay, someone has to say it and it might as well be me. Xtreme Wheels looks and plays an awful lot like 2009′s Xbox Live Arcade release, Trials HD. An awful lot. I know there are similar titles out there that do similar things, but none that I can think of are quite so… well, similar. I’m not saying this is bad, since Trials HD is an exceptional game and having its equivalent on a portable iOS device is fantastic, but the two are so close they look like they could have been made by the same company. Just saying.

Xtreme Wheels is all about speed, accuracy and, above all, finesse. Getting that faceless rider from one end of a given course to the other is no easy task, but in order to earn the best medals and really land a good spot on the leaderboards a run has to be quick and practically flawless. The “flawless” thing is what will trip up most players as each track is full of gravity-defying loops, perilous bunny hops (trust me, they’re very perilous) and all kinds of explosives. Simply face-planting into a low platform will give someone a time penalty, so needless to say it’s important to do as little crashing, crushing, scraping and exploding as possible. Yeah, good luck with that.

As expected, Xtreme Wheels is lots of fun. Pulling off these stunts in the first place feels like a monumental task, but being able to go back and do them better, faster and flashier feels particularly rewarding. Even more so when that bronze changes to a gold. It also offers just about every control scheme imaginable, from tilt to digital to analog sliders, so virtually everyone can find a solution that works for them. Personally I stuck with the slider because it’s what I’m most comfortable with, but each of the control options felt very responsive. There are no afterthoughts here.

Of course we have to take the good with the bad, and there is some bad. There’s always some bad. In Xtreme Wheels‘ case, it’s the typical issue of wanting more coupled with some choppiness during gameplay. Granted, the game already has twenty five levels available (split between five themed areas), so that’s really just me being finicky. The big issue that can, and sometimes does, hinder the actual game is the slowdown. It’s prevalent throughout most levels and it fluctuates between noticeable but unobtrusive to downright crippling. It’s no exaggeration when I say that I’ve botched more than a few jumps and landings thanks to some severe stutters. Thankfully the checkpoints are well placed, so as long as the goal is simply reaching the finish line it’s usually not a big deal. I have every confidence that the issue can be resolved with an update, but until then it’s something to be aware of.

Really, aside from the occasional framerate problem (which doesn’t derail so much as it impedes) and my whining about wanting more stuff, Xtreme Wheels is a great, solid game. It controls beautifully, has lots of crazy tracks to master and can make any commute fly by. With a little tune-up it could be a real beast.

If you were to look up generosity in the dictionary, I am pretty sure you might find an icon for the game Pocket God next to the definition.  Simply put, this is the franchise that just keeps on giving, and for completely free.  Their most recent release of the game Pocket God: Journey to Uranus is no exception to the rule either, as it was announced yesterday that another cost absent update has just been made available.

Entitled “Planet of the Living Dead,” the game is delving into a world that gamers have become ever so familiar with: zombies.  Not only do the brain gobblers make their first appearance, but now you will also be able to arm your pygmies, in order to fight off the mindless hordes.

Check out the trailer below and let us know in the comments if this is the type of update that could coax a purchase out your stingy wallet.

Create Personalized Flipbooks With Flickbooks

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. Flipbooks have always been a fun way of creating some simple animations. As someone who could only ever draw stickmen, admittedly I’ve had a pretty limited time with them but they’re a very cool concept. So the cool people at Netcetera have taken that idea and turned it into an iOS app!

Flickbooks allows its users to turn iOS created videos into their very own flipbooks. A 6 to 15 second video can be recorded with it edited to create the perfect sequence. Covers can be designed also along with a personal message or title.

The completed video can then be sent off via Wi-Fi and turned into an actual, physical Flipbook for a fee that can be paid easily via credit card or Paypal. Each flipbook is a convenient size with 50 pages in all and of a high quality. It’s certainly a lovely romantic gesture and makes for an ideal present for a loved one or relative.

Check out the video example below for the results. It’s pretty clever.

Flickbooks is available now and is a free app.
