It’s nice to have an active and busy social life. It’s not always easy to keep track of where and when such activities are going to happen though. While such information could just be added as a text entry, Doweet can make things much simpler to consult.

It’s an app that promises to revolutionize the way that its users do things together. While the jury’s still out on that one, it does look pretty useful fr those looking to play nights out or parties. Users can create activities for them and their friends then share them privately ensuring that people can hook up via the app and plan ahead. It sounds kind of like the Facebook event system but in a more casual and quicker way rather than being restricted to logging into Facebook.

Once users are together within one of these activities, they can then chat about the event and presumably plan further details. Nosey friends can also check out the real time social activities stream to see what others are up to at any time which could stimulate some conversations.

Doweet looks quite cool for the social iOS user taking out all the hassle of planning. It’s available now and it’s free.

Hypership Out of Control Review

By Rob Rich on September 20th, 2011
Our Rating:

:: ACT FAST
Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Hypership Out of Control combines top-down shooters, endless runners and crazy in one super-slick, retro-inspired package.

Developer: Fun Infused Games
Price: $0.99
Version: 1.0
App Reviewed on: iPhone 3GS
Graphics / Sound Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
User Interface Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Gameplay Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Re-use / Replay Value Rating: 4.75 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 4.44 out of 5 stars

I first played Hypership Out of Control some time ago. Almost one year ago exactly, actually. This was back when it was an Xbox Live Indie Game. I was quite impressed with Fun Infused Games’ retro-inspired not-quite shooter, but after spending some time with it on my phone it’s become apparent that this game was meant for iOS.

Players assume control over an out-of-control spacecraft as it careens through all manner of obstacles with no space breaks. Unfortunately, the breaks are the only thing that’s out. The accelerator is still perfectly functional and perhaps even a little over-zealous. The ship will build speed fairly quickly until it reaches its limit, however successfully navigating a section/wave will increase the speed cap so the longer players survive the tougher it gets. There are some power-ups available along the way to make things a little easier, such as a power shot that can destroy anything it hits (even the seemingly indestructible obstacles), a shield and even one that can significantly slow down the ship for a time.

Playing Hypership Out of Control with a touch screen just feels natural. It uses the same kind of scheme most shmups on the platform do: touch and drag on the screen to move the ship. It’s infinitely more responsive and exact than using a joystick or console controller. In addition to just playing great, there are also lots of game modes to keep score-hungry players interested. These include the normal “survive as long as possible” mode, a mode with absolutely no speed cap and my personal favorite, one where the only way to survive is to constantly collect coins. On top of all that there’s also an option to flip the levels, so once all the patterns are memorized (no easy task, believe me) it can all be done backwards.

This is normally where I talk about the various issues or problems I’ve had with the game, but I honestly can’t think of any. The retro aesthetic is wonderful, the music is awesome, the controls are spot-on, the challenge is fine-tuned to perfection, there are a ton of variations to enjoy and plenty of achievements to acquire. I suppose I could complain about the various ships that are available to choose from not having any actual affect on the gameplay, save looking different and changing the color of the HUD, but that’s all I’ve got.

In all seriousness, Hypership Out of Control is a gem of an iOS game. It’s got all the pick-up-and-play trappings and super-addictiveness that a successful App Store release needs, wrapped in an incredibly tight package and sold for what I’d consider way too small a price. This is a must-own, people. Seriously.

Romantic Messages Using JustUs

at 6:36 AM

Long distance relationships are tough. Heck I’ve been there. It’s horrible being away from loved ones for any length of time. An app like JustUs could take the edge off things however.

It’s an app that allows users to receive reminders whenever their loved one thinks about them during the day. Fortunately it’s not done through reading brain activity or anything like that, it’s all down to the couple having their own copy of the JustUs app.

Set up is pretty easy with users having a private code to share between each other. Once they meet up, a bump of iOS devices together and the app imports a picture of the other half. Then, whenever one user opens the app, they see a photo of their loved one and the loved one receives a notification that they’re being thought of.

It’s that simple and really quite a cute idea. JustUs is out now priced at $0.99 per copy (as of course you need two copies!). Check out the video explaining it below.

Singer Adele’s career has gone from strength to strength in the past few years. Critical and commercial success has meant that she’s a huge hit in the US as well as her home country of the UK. Her awards are countless with millions of copies of her two albums selling in this time. Not bad for someone who’s only 23!

To add to Adele’s portfolio of wonders, she’s now gained her very own app, just like The Black Eyed Peas before her. The app, titled simply Adele, offers everything a fan could want in her very own inimitable style. There’s all the latest news updates, both official and tweets from her Twitter page. Previews of all her tracks are on offer as well as the ability to watch the official videos. Community minded fans can interact with the Fan Community and post their own comments and photos to other fans. Tour dates are also viewable and the ability to buy tickets and check in using Foursquare or Facebook is possible too.

Even more satisfying, the app is free, making it an ideal thing to acquire for fans of Adele’s wonderful voice.
