Those players of Say What You See: The Collection who downloaded the in-app collection of puzzles, Grace’s Toons, should feel very proud of themselves having raised over £21,000 to help disabled British child Grace Windram.

For the uninformed, Say What You See: The Collection is a game that’s exactly as the title suggests. A hidden object game quite like Where’s Waldo with a hint of Dingbats, players must search each picture for objects while also unraveling their meanings too.

Say What You See: The Collection offers plenty of different in-app themed packages with Grace’s Toons, launched in September, involving 50 well-known cartoon names amongst a Road-runner-esque backdrop. In the 8 weeks since release, £21,000 was raised through the in-app package enabling Grace Windram to have a much happier life.

Little Grace suffers from Spastic Dyplegic Cerebral Palsy, affecting the tone in her legs and arms as well as core muscles across her body. The money raised means she can have a life changing operation in the USA called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, which will remove the tightness in her legs and will eventually enable her to learn to walk.

A fantastic effort indeed!

The money might have been raised but why not give Say What You See: The Collection a try now? It’s free to download with plenty of in-app packs available to extend the fun.

Warblade HD Review

Our Rating: ★★★★☆ :: ALIEN DESTRUCTION
iPad Only App - Designed for the iPad

Warblade sticks to a tried and true formula for its genre, but it also adds in a few distractions to make this one enjoyable ride through space.

Developer: EMV Software
Price: $2.99

Version: 1.46.4
App Reviewed on: iPad

Graphics / Sound Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

User Interface Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Gameplay Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Re-use / Replay Value Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars

I’ve enjoyed a good amount of top-down shoot’em up games over the years, so finding something that tweaks the formula and introduces some new mechanics is always welcome. Warblade does not alter the standard formula that makes these games so addicting, but it does manage to pack in a few extras that help break up long sessions of alien destruction.

Warblade brings a decent amount of features and entertainment to the table, starting with weapon upgrades that players purchase between stages. As enemies explode from the screen they drop coins to aid in buying bullets, speed improvements, or even weapon upgrades. The weapon upgrades are attainable through normal play, but buying a more powerful weapon helps keep players from being reduced to a pea-shooter if they die.

The game adds a nice touch to the gameplay with the included mini-games. Some enemies will drop objects that will send the player into small diversions such as a memory matching game or challenging them to fly through an asteroid field as quickly as possible. The inclusion of a timed mode, global leader board support in which the best score per 25 levels displays at the top, and this game provides plenty of replay value.

The only complaint is with controls that sometimes lose player input. At times I would be dodging and weaving through a storm of bullets, or asteroids, and the game would just stop reading where my finger was. This led to some needless deaths and became irritating when it would reduce me to a single shot weapon.

Fans of the top-down shoot’em ups with a flair of retro aesthetics will find plenty here to keep them coming back for more. Leveling of ship components along with a constant leader board score at the top of the screen is terribly addicting. It may not be a full-blown bullet hell style game, but there is plenty to enjoy that make this game well worth picking up.

We rather liked Elements Dropbox Powered Text Editor when it was first reviewed last year. Developers, Second Gear Software, were obviously determined to make it all the better by releasing a significant update in August of this year and they’ve gone one better by releasing yet another major update in the form of Version 2.1.

The most significant addition here is that of iCloud support. Elements 2.1 now allows the user to sync their settings, appearance preferences and scratchpad contents between different devices thanks to such support. Something that’s particularly ideal for those who use the app on both iPhone and iPad.

As well as that, there’s now the ability to copy the Markdown generated HTML preview to the clipboard enabling writes to transfer their words to the CMS of their choice, ideal for those using an CMS that Elements doesn’t yet support.

Along the way, Second Gear Software has also fixed numerous bugs and changed a few minor things. Most curically, Elements now requires iOS 5 to run.

The update is available now for free for existing owners. Those yet to give Elements a try can purchase it for $4.99.

Herding chickens is not only cute, but it is also challenging and enjoyable.

Sometimes there are days when a gamer just wants to sit down for a few minutes, enjoy a small challenge, and then go about their day without worrying about complicated control schemes or if they made the last check point. Chicken Coup Remix HD fits this bill just nicely.

The game mechanic here is simple, just escort some chickens back to their coups by dragging them across the farm-yard. However there are two different hens that need to go into their appropriate houses as well as hungry foxes that try to come in for a quick snack. The game eases players in with a brief tutorial, but the first level quickly becomes a test of speedy collection skills and evaluating if saving one chicken is worth losing five others. Each stage has specific score requirements to beat while only ten chickens maybe lost over the course of playing the level. There are three bombs that maybe used to clear everything when things get too hectic. This is a great example of a simple game to pick up and play yet hard to conquer.

Each new setting starts nice and manageable but after a few moments it quickly fills up and becomes a pain to maintain. Sadly this is where two issues rear their ugly heads. The game would often drop chickens off at various places if I was moving my finger too quickly, thus forcing me to quickly work to collect the birds before it was too late. There are also stages where a fox would be hidden by trees, grab a chicken, and run off without ever showing up on the screen. This quickly becomes frustrating as the screen fills to the brim and managing the chaos becomes ever more essential. Hopefully these two annoyances receive some adjust in a patch down the road.

The game is aggravating and fun at the same time thanks to what seems like an easy task quickly escalates into a frenzy of herding chickens and foxes. Don’t let the cutesy setting fool you, this is a challenging game and obtaining three stars on every level is not an easy task. I wonder if Old McDonald had this much trouble.

Codify Brings Entry-Level Coding to iPad Users

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. Developer Two Lives Left (no relation to Tilt to Live developer One Man Left) has introduced an iPad app for those budding programmers out there.

Codify is an app that is based on the Lua programming language, and is designed for users to be able to easily set up and use projects on their iPad. This is not meant to be a compiler for large-scale projects, nor is it meant to be a Lua compiler for iPad, as projects are currently limited to the iPad alone. However, it provides an introduction to programming, with visual tools that can be used to help make a simple project easily.

The app comes with sample projects to explore, sample graphics to use in projects, and the ability to intelligently interact with code in ways that aren’t quite available with just a standard Lua editor. This is an interesting option for people looking to get their hands dirty with actual programming, but in a much simpler and friendlier environment.
