Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Pixlr-o-matic offers plenty of different ways to add effects to photos but not quite as many ways to share them.

Pixlr-o-matic promises to offer over 25,000 different finishes for any one image. An impressive promise to make for a photo filtering app that costs precisely nothing. It’s certainly worth taking the time to download too as while it might be a little simplistic, it’s entertaining to browse through. The pedigree of originally being a website feature clearly shows here in terms of ease of use.
The app offers an experience akin to a dark room so turning up the brightness for it might be wise. Various color filters can be added, each with their own memorable name to consult again at a later date. Some offer black and white or sepia effects while others brighten the image more so truly transforming the photo’s appearance. Lighting effects can be added then adding anything from rainbow style effects to strobe lighting or my favorite, a rain style effect. Finally, to round things off a border or frame can be added to images before completion.
With over 25 color filters and over 30 lighting effects and borders, there’s a lot of different options to try out. It makes for a fun way of adjusting images in a funky but entertaining style. Unfortunately the sharing options available aren’t quite as impressive with only the likes of saving to the photo album, sending to Facebook or image sharing service Imm.io available. It’s not a huge problem, certainly not for a free app, but it is disappointing that there’s no Twitter support at least.
Minor gripe aside, Pixlr-o-matic is a fun filtering app made all the better by the fact it doesn’t cost a penny to acquire. An Universal app, iPad 1 owners will be pleasantly surprised to see that they’re supported with no need to take a photo directly within the app to use it.
