Original Danger Sidekick service has been shut down |
Danger's original Sidekick service was one of the first to provide consumers with push email, and great AIM support on a handset. And after nearly a decade of the service, this past Tuesday was the final day for the service. The original devices that relied completely on these servers for their content have been shut down, taking with them all users data with them. The Sidekick 4G, launched earlier this year, is now based on Android, and is not reliant on a single point of failure like the older models. These iconic devices will certainly be missed by some, though today's menu of smartphones is likely robust enough for most to find a suitable replacement.
