US Government alows employees to choose smartphones other than BlackBerry |
The Washington Post this week detailed how BlackBerry is no longer the exclusive choice for smartphones among the federal government. The article talks about how employees are finally being allowed to switch out BlackBerry devices for Apple or Google powered ones, including how President Obama owns and loves his iPad 2. Called the"Federal Government 2.0", Washington is realizing RIM may not be their best choice anymore, instead opting to let everyone from top staff to frontline employees to allow these devices into the workplace. According to officials, it boosts employee morale, and creates happier workers. Finally, the General Services Administration is currently working to move 17,000 employees to Gmail, helping reduce expenses by 50 percent over the next five years.
