There are countless ways to effectively use the iOS touch controls, but some of the finest games in the iOS catalog only need one finger to control. Usually this means that the game itself is very simple. Mighty Fin is no exception to this rule. The game’s simplicity means that it only needs one finger to control, but this doesn’t make the game boring or repetitive. In fact, because the game is so easy to pick up and play, it can easily become a go to game for gamers with a few minutes on their hands.

In Mighty Fin, players guide Fin the fish through treacherous waters by making him jump or dive. The game’s controls are very similar those of games like Tiny Wings, where a touch will cause the fish to dive and letting go will cause the fish to rise or jump. Rising, jumping, or diving, Fin can make it around boats, spikes, icebergs, and tons of other obstacles. This is also how Fin grabs the bubbles placed along each level to reach higher scores. There are also over two dozen “souvenir” costumes hidden throughout the game that can be collected and used to spice up Fin’s look with things like top hats and dreadlocks.

The way Fin the fish moves in and out of the water feels great, and there is a palpable feeling of buoyancy as the fish dives and rises. Well timed dives and jumps are all it takes to clear the game’s obstacles and the controls are responsive enough to accommodate quick movements when needed.

The levels in Mighty Fin are variable and randomly generated. Every level has a define set of obstacles and assets and these are randomly mixed every time the level is generated. Essentially, the level is completely different every time it is played. This greatly extends the lifetime of each level, but it also makes it very difficult to beat harder levels when it is almost impossible to anticipate the layout of the levels obstacles. After completing each level an endless mode is also made available for the level.

Mighty Fin is a great game with responsive, simple controls and a fun atmosphere. There are some difficult spots due to the randomness of the levels, but this doesn’t hinder the gameplay and adds to the life of the game. This game is an enjoyable one, and that’s no fish tale.
