Run For Your Lives – zombie themed obstacle course and marathon
By admin

Run for Your Lives adds zombies and an obstacle course to a standard 5K marathon, thus making it useful training for anyone concerned about potential zombie attacks. Aside from the cardio and speed, this event also emphasizes situational awareness as volunteers dressed as zombies will attempt to steal flags from every runner, like in flag football. Runners must avoid the zombies while completing obstacles and racing towards the finish line.

As this is an open-world game with multiplayer being first in mind, Live play is a given. One of the things that sets Class3 apart is that they are bringing that same online feel to split-screen. They want the experience to feel the same whether you are online in a party or on the couch with a friend. Sticking together in split-screen is now a thing of the past. Now just like an open-world online game, you can go where you want, when you want. You and your split-screener are free to roam the world doing as you please, even if it means you end up on "different sides of a very large world".

Undead Labs' main focus is to make these games are fun and accessible. The technical side of things does matter, but those can be fixed as time goes on. Jeff states that one of the failures in open-world, MMO style games is that they are not fun. This is why they feel that the fun factor needs to be the same whether playing single player, split-screen or online.

Photo Party Upload Aims to Make Event Photography Sharing a Snap

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. In order to provide a sustainable, best of the breed RSS to Email experience, we've chosen to keep this as a paid subscription service. If you are satisfied with your free trial, please sign-up today. Subscriptions without a plan would soon be removed. Thank you!

Photo Party Upload is an app developed by LA Photo Party, Inc. in order to help facilitate the sharing of photos taken at events in an easier manner, with the ability to share them to the internet directly from an iPad. By using a PC with the Photo Party Upload Helper program and an iPad connected to the same wireless network, photos can be automatically sent from a camera directly to the iPad. While getting photos directly from the camera is naturally the hurdle to going completely wireless, this can be achieved through the use of an SD card with wireless capabilities like the Eye-Fi, by shooting photos from a camera directly hooked up to a PC, or just by transferring from the camera’s memory card at various times. When photos reach the watched folder of the Photo Party Upload Helper, then they are automatically sent to Photo Party Upload for iPad. From there, photos can be easily viewed, and sent by guests via email, Twitter, and Facebook. The app is free to download, but requires a subscription to the Photo Party Upload service; a 2-week trial is included.

8-bit vs 16-bit is Ready to Settle the Debate

The old argument of “Which one’s better?” may not be familiar to a younger generation, but Old School gamers remember. We remember the schoolyard fights over Mario and Sonic or talking about how many bits a given console had as though it were currency. Anyone who didn’t have enough bits was behind the times. A “loser,” of a sort. An outcast among their peers due to their archaic game machine.

I think Vetasoft remembers, too, and that’s why they’ve released 8-bit vs 16-bit on the App Store.

While the title is a tad misleading (the two measurements of bit depth aren’t actually fighting each other), it’s still quite the fun little arcade shooter. Horrible cosmic monsters trickle down the screen, as they tend to do, and players have to tap each of the little buggers before they reach the bottom. These beasties come in both 8-bit and 16-bit varieties, however, requiring players to quickly switch between both modes in order to take out the offending parties.

In practice it’s a frantic, goofy, fun mess. The good kind of mess. There are no power-ups to confuse things and no special conditions to meet. No bosses, no mini-bosses… In fact, there aren’t even any other kinds of enemies. It’s just the player and increasingly tough waves of baddies made up of varying degrees of bits. It’s the kind of simple that compliments iOS games quite well. Coupled with the kind of simple gameplay that keeps unsuspecting consumers from getting off the train at the correct stop or neglecting important things like bathing.

8-bit vs 16-bit is available right now in the App Store as both a free Lite version and a paid full version. I highly encourage everyone to take a look at the Lite version at the very least. Since it’s free and all. It probably won’t put the argument to rest for good, but it might get people to quiet down for a bit while they’re busy playing it.

Silverfish MAX Released for iPad with iCade Support

Chaotic Box’s excellent frantic grid-based arena survival game has come to the iPad, as Silverfish MAX. The game has been optimized for the iPad’s resolution; this isn’t a windowed 960×640 game like other iPhone/iPod touch ports to the iPad, Silverfish MAX uses the full screen. This also allows the detail of the graphics to shine through in a way that even the Retina Display does not allow. The additional real estate of the iPad screen means that there’s plenty of room for the swipe-based controls to work without obscuring the action at all. The d-pad based control scheme is still available as well. The game otherwise features the same content as the regular version of Silverfish, including the Haste mode added in an update, where the POW bar decreases rapidly, but Power Pods fill the bar up instantly. However, the most notable feature in Silverfish MAX is support for iCade controls. Game Center leaderboards and achievements are included, of course. Silverfish MAX is available now from the App Store.

Amanita Design Bringing Machinarium to the iPad Soon

Thank you for using rssforward.com! This service has been made possible by all our customers. Perhaps best known for their quirky flash game Samorost, Amanita Design has since gone on to make a real name for themselves with their first full-length title, Machinarium. The minimalist adventure of an adorable little robot created somewhat of a stir on the Mac and PC, and now it’s ready to make another group of unaware consumers into rabid fans. I am, of course, referring to iPad owners.

In a statement issued to Pocket Gamer, the developer’s founder Jakub Dvorský mentioned that the iPad version has not only been in the works, but that it’s also nearing completion: “It’s almost finished, but we still need to fix a lot of small bugs and test it properly. It should be ready during the next month…hopefully.”

We can’t do much but speculate on how the Flash title will handle the port, but I think it’ll do just fine. The PC controls are as simple as it gets, with single left mouse clicks as the only required interface. The inventory is almost never larger than a handful of items and it’s in an unobtrusive drop-down menu. There aren’t even other action icons to select (as is usually the custom in other adventure games); instead the game uses context sensitive icons that change depending on what the cursor is hovering over. Controls like that should translate to a touch screen quite easily, I would think.

This is a rather big deal for adventure game fans, even if they’ve never played the PC version (pictured). Machinarium is one of the most beautiful, stylish and clever games of its kind. From the amazing artwork to the incredible soundtrack, not to mention the clever puzzle design, it’s a downright treat to play. Between this version and Machinarium‘s impending release on the PlayStation 3, I think it’s safe to say that the folks at Amanita Design are doing quite well.

iPad users, keep an eye out for this one. I promise it’ll be worth it.

ScatterBrain Review

By
Gianna LaPin on July 28th, 2011
Our Rating: ★★★★☆ :: HAS POTENTIAL
iPhone App - Designed for the iPhone, compatible with the iPad

ScatterBrain captures every fleeting thought simply and easily, from grocery lists to random to-dos, and looks good doing it.

Developer: Stefano Tomasello
Price: FREE
Version: 1.2.2
App Reviewed on: iPod Touch 4g
iPhone Integration Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
User Interface Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
Re-use / Replay Value Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Overall Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars

I was really curious to see if ScatterBrain truly lived up to the hype, and initially I was impressed: the UI really is gorgeous. Like other chronic listmakers I am always on the lookout for a better system, but unfortunately this app will not become my new favorite due to a few usability flaws that stand in the way of it being truly polished.

It opens up with a snazzy little walkthrough when launched for the first time, but quickly gets down to business. The first thing users will want to do is clear out the four preloaded thoughts already included and add their own. Swipe across the row containing the thought and hit "Forget". But be careful; once forgotten, a thought cannot be retrieved, there is no "undelete" option in ScatterBrain.

Entering in new thoughts is fairly straightforward. The large plus-sign "Add" button is prominently placed, which is nice. ScatterBrain expects all thoughts to have a title, which it camel-cases automatically (this may or may not be desired). In the body text field, users can easily create bulleted lists with one button click. Hidden behind the keyboard is more information; the thought's created and modified dates are shown (I'm not sure why, as they can't be changed) as well as the option to set reminders (new in version 1.2). Thoughts can also be copied and pasted. I'm sure that feature is useful in some situations, but I never ran into any of them. Assign one of seven colors to the thought before hitting the Save button, which unfortunately is placed a bit too close to the "delete" button for the title.

Once a few thoughts are in the system, ScatterBrain will give the option to sort by color (which functions essentially like categories or folders), created/modified dates, titles, or reminders. Users can also search through any text in the app quickly and easily. Individual thoughts can also be copied into email or sent via SMS, which is a handy feature.

The default view on the main screen is by date, but a much more helpful option is to sort by color, which rolls all the thoughts in a color category up with a tap. ScatterBrain claims that it now supports landscape view, but this only works on the screen displayed when an individual thought is tapped. This lead to a lot of device fumbling on my part.

The settings tab has a few additional items of note. ScatterBrain syncs with ScatterSync, a cloud service run by Stefano Tomasello which is currently free and not required to use ScatterBrain. The TOS on the app says that syncing is currently a manual process, and that Dropbox integration is planned. The settings tab also gives users the option of reordering the colors (nice but useless) and the obligatory social media connections.

ScatterBrain's developer has been releasing updates and bug fixes steadily for about three months, and seems to be pretty responsive to the app’s fanbase, so we can likely look forward to continued enhancements in the future.

Favorite Four: Travel Apps

There are so many different types of travel apps we decided to focus this week not only on those that simplify travel in general, but those geared to air travel and travel abroad. Most of the apps are useful for road trips and or as general reference apps as well. These are our top picks that work on all iOS Devices and will help make getting to, staying at, and getting home from any destination easier.

TripIt – Travel Organizer

Travel can be a hassle, especially when flying and dealing with delays and cancellations and landing in a new place with a rental car and no idea where to go. Tripit is a one-stop app for travel organization and flight information. Users can access all their travel plans on a single device no matter where a flight was booked. Fliers do have to forward their confirmation numbers to the tripit website, but then they get “smartineraries” which include driving directions and maps to relevant destinations. The app will send alerts if a booked flight is late or off the tarmac altogether – even provide alternative travel options. There are additional services available to pro users for an annual subscription fee.

Flight Track Pro

Import flight data automatically from any airline confirmation email and get push notifications of real-time changes to any flight. Also access flight itinerary updates, and detailed zoomable maps that work offline. FlightTrack has fewer bells and whistles than the Pro version, and is suitable for occasional travellers. The Pro version has everything frequent fliers need to stay on top of the most complicated intineraries. Features include automatic itinerary synching with TripIt (see above,) iPhone calendar sync, and the ability to share flight status by email, Facebook or Twitter.

Packing Pro

Packing Pro is a must-have travel app. As the name suggests, the app ensures a single traveller or someone packing for a group doesn’t forget anything at home. The universal app is feature-packed with packing features. There is expert list assistance which are essentially several packing templates for both genders and different ages. Also, users have the ability to create up to eight lists at once. The app has themes and includes suggested lists for everyone from campers to business travellers. There is a master list of over 400 items and of course, users can add their own items. The best part – the app syncs across devices so users can create lists for everyone in their party or family and share them easily.

XE Currency

Travelling internationally this summer? Then we hope you remember how many Euros there are in a US Dollar. Having the right currency and understanding its worth in Dollars or Pounds or Rupees can make the difference between an easy trip full of shopping and even saving, to being left without local currency when needed most. No app can guarantee exact rates, but XE Currency has close to real-time information and generally trusted information. This a great app for day-to-day international commerce as well.

An ideal way to store information securely.

Increasingly, we as consumers store and take with us many, many sensitive things when we travel. For instance, I was away in London last month and had to leave my laptop, iPhone and my iPad in a hotel room. At least my iPhone was usually on my person, but the iPad was frequently left in the room in a bag. While there’s the protection of locking the iPad using the built in security functions, it’s comforting to know there’s can be an extra layer. PrivateInfo-HD does exactly that and has the extra use of keeping sensitive information safe from prying eyes, even the ones allowed to use the device.

The app offers the look of a safe and it certainly is that. Entering an initial password to lock everything securely, users are given an easy and intuitive interface to deal with. It takes seconds to add any of the many types of data supported by the app. Users can add their bank account information or credit card details for easy reference. This offers a particular benefit for users who travel a lot but don’t always want to carry their details around with them. Website login details can be stored also along with notes and personal information.

Multimedia files can also be stored with special provisions offered to photos, videos and voice memos. Multiple albums can be created to ensure easy yet secure browsing. Users can even record and take photos or videos from within the app for extra ease. Files such as PDFs and Word documents can also be imported with web server and Dropbox support offered.

PrivateInfo-HD is a pretty comprehensive app for security features. It’s easy to use and very secure thanks to the AES256 bit encryption. The many integration features are ideal with the developer promising iTunes file transfer connectivity in a future update. It might seem a little expensive to some but for those whose privacy is vital, it’s still an excellent price.
