We all have various methods of organizing our busy lives and schedules. Most of us use calendars and to-do lists of various sorts. Wikly is a weekly calendar app that also throws in to-dos. Wikly is elegantly designed for that specific someone that enjoys a simple, aesthetically pleasing interface and a weekly, time table view of their schedule.

What drew my eye to Wikly was the simplicity of the schedule, while still having the ability to edit details like with the built-in iPad calendar app. Adding an event is as simple as tapping and holding where the event starts and dragging to where it ends. After that, a popup with the details of the event becomes available. Basic calendar features like notes, location, repeating, and alerts are all available. One of my favorite features is that a to-do can be dragged into the calendar area to become an event. The color schemes that Wikly provides are great but I wouldn't mind the ability to create a custom color scheme. A small, but significant, detail I noticed with the color schemes is when the color scheme is changed, all events shift to a new corresponding color with the new color scheme. So if events are color-coded, they stay color-coded even when the scheme is switched. Navigation between weeks is easy, but not so easy that it can be done accidentally (three finger swipe). And moving, copying, cutting, and pasting of events all feel natural: tap and drag to move, tap and click copy to copy, tap and hold to paste.

There were a few problems that made my experience with Wikly less than perfect. Sometimes, when I switched between weeks, the app disregards the start and end time settings I made for the timeline (I set it to start at 7AM and end at 12AM). The app would stretch to about 1AM to 12AM. I found the resizing a little annoying and couldn't get it back to my settings without restarting the app. Also, while it's great that the events sync to the calendar app on the iPad, it also inherits a problem that bothers me with the iPad calendar app: multiple calendars. With the iPad calendar app, a new calendar can't be added without the help of a computer calendar program (iCal/Outlook/etc). For someone who only uses mobile calendar applications like me (iPad and iPhone), it leaves me dependent on my computer for adding new calendars when I otherwise wouldn't need it.

Despite the few problems I had, Wikly is well worth the $1.99 for anyone who prefers a weekly calendar.
