Making a physics based puzzler into a game that feels relatively fresh and interesting really isn’t an easy task these days. There are just so many games within the genre on the app store. Fortunately, Little Lost Chick HD makes a pleasant change, offering a few different physics-based puzzling tricks all rolled into one.

It’s all because of poor little Bruce the chick who’s managed to get lost a fair distance away, given the fact that he’s got to make his way through 100 different levels in order to get home to his Mom. At first, it’s very much business as usual. The early stages introduce the core concepts behind traversing each level with grassy blocks that can be tapped and thus removed, clearing the way for Bruce. Gravity plays an important role here as Bruce can’t move around on his own. Instead it’s the environment that has to be manipulated.

Blocks aren’t everything, however, with an increasing array of methods to move Bruce around, including catapults and enemy frogs. Vines play a particularly useful role, gripping onto platforms until cut with a swipe of a finger. Multi touch is possible and in some cases essential for success, meaning that timing is everything. It’s not long before moving platforms and wheel shaped platforms need to be similarly manipulated. It’s pretty challenging but rarely unfairly so. The main challenge comes from the three eggs scattered around each stage that can be collected along the way. They’re not essential but they’re satisfying to acquire, particularly in later stages of the game.

For the physics based puzzle fan, Little Lost Chick is an ideal purchase. The adorable visuals will keep many happy but just because it looks innocent doesn’t mean that it’s a pushover. Underneath the surface is enough challenge to ensure that players will keep returning to Little Lost Chick until they reach the conclusion.
