Zombie Slash Review

Our Rating: ★★★★☆ :: DERIVATIVE BUT FUN
Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

It’s basically Fruit Ninja with a zombie/horror theme but it’s still excellent fun, much like the fruit based game before it.

Fruit Ninja isn’t as good at providing stress relief as it could be. Sure, it’s great fun chopping up fruit as it flies through the air. But wouldn’t it just be so much more fun if it was zombie heads? That’s precisely what the makers of Zombie Slash must have thought.

It’s hard to tell the difference between Fruit Ninja and Zombie Slash. In fact, the only real difference is what the player’s chopping up and what they’re avoiding. Players use their fingers to slice up zombie heads, while nimbly avoiding biohazard containers and human brains. That’s the entire concept of Zombie Slash explained in a mere sentence. It doesn’t go anywhere to explaining how much fun it is.

Much like Fruit Ninja, Zombie Slash is addictive stuff. The ‘just one more go’ mentality is very strong here. Two game modes are on offer, both providing different benefits. Time Attack mode is ideal for those in need of a restriction on their gaming, offering 90 seconds to slice up as many zombies as possible. Every time a zombie head falls off the screen, players lose time. Fortunately clocks pop up quickly which can be sliced to boost the time limit. It’s a potent mix and one that means numerous 90 second rounds in a row are all too tempting.

Arcade Mode is a similar experience but without the timer. Instead, players are knocked out if they allow three heads to drop off the screen. This is the mode that I found easiest to rack up huge scores with and the allure of beating my previous score was too hard to ignore. Combos are possible through slashing numerous heads at once and multi touch is very useful here.

Zombie Slash clones Fruit Ninja to a ridiculous level, but for those not bothered about innovation and originality, the game offers plenty of spooky fun that’s ideal for the Halloween season. Despite my better judgement wanting to pick on Zombie Slash for its blatant copying, I couldn’t help but enjoy my time playing it.
