Much like Farm Frenzy 3, Youda Survivor is a time management game with no action queuing system making it a fast paced title that consistently demands the player’s attention.

Youda Survivor places the player in the role of a man stranded on a desert island. In order to survive and keep the native tribespeople happy, the player must complete numerous tasks across 80 different levels. As is often the way with such titles, things start out simple. Early levels just require the player to attract birds and then collect their eggs. This sets the path towards increasingly complex level goals. Each item can then be transformed into something more intricate.

Starting out is a matter of encouraging birds by unleashing the power of rain (always an useful ability to have) which then fills the holes scattered around each level with water. The eggs can then be converted into all manners of useful items such as boiled eggs or powdered eggs. This is all done through a gradual unlocking system of equipment. Trickle feeding such elements work well as, while ultimately it requires the same game mechanics, it keeps things feeling fresh and different.

Providing the tribe with such items isn’t the only thing that players need to keep an eye on. An energy meter and water meter must be kept high at all times with it being possible to create potions via the items collected. This creates quite a balancing effect as the player must keep an eye on energy levels while also using the items to reach the level goals. That’s not forgetting the crabs and pirates that love to impede the player’s progress with fighting them taking up precious energy.

Put together, Youda Survivor sounds incredibly intense. It’s actually not. It’s a relaxing yet satisfying time management experience that eases the player in gently. With branching paths within the campaign and some keen times set to acheive gold medals, there’s a lot of fun to be had here for fans of the genre.
