Salvage Qualifications

Posted: 17 Jun 2011 06:25 AM PDT

Guest Blog by Roger West, General Secretary of the BVSF.

The Vehicular Salvage industry is, like others, faced with a number of enforced qualifications, which, like it or not and despite, in some cases very serious objections and challenges are apparently unlikely to simply "go away". It is therefore in the interest of every company affected by these enforced qualifications to "fall in line". The CoTC Technically Competent Manager (TCM) qualification comes into force next February, although it is being challenged as we type. A very large number of people will need to take and pass this examination to enable their companies to continue operations after next February. The EA are already compiling lists of those companies that have not become involved in the qualification or not "shown interest". If a company choose to leave action until the last minute, this could simply result in their inability to gain the qualification due to lack of spaces at the test centres. Another enforced qualification is the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) which, although not required for LGV drivers until Sept 2014 is something that should be thought about now, 35 hours worth of training every 5 years is not a lot, leave this at your peril, you will be unable to continue driving professionally if you don't comply. What will they hit us with next?
