You see that picture above? That...is a huge grain of salt. Actually, its a normal size grain, just magnified to appear quite large. Anyway, you're going to want to take this story with one of these, as we're just a week away from WWDC, and the truth of what's going to happen with the iPhone this year is just around the corner.
Japanese Apple blog Macotakara says that Apple will indeed be launching a revised version of the iPhone in the next few months, but will call it the "iPhone 4S". The site says the device will have the same form factor as the current iPhone 4, and will include an 8MP camera, APple A5 chipset based on the ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, and following recent rumors, have a built-in SIM. Further, the A5 chip may be the same naming convention as the iPad 2, but this doesn't necessarily mean the iPhone 4S will be dual-core. Finally, the lack of SIM will allow for both GSM and CDMA carriers to use the handset, as the Gobi chipset inside will make the device a world phone for CDMA carriers like Verizon. The antenna design is supposedly improved as well, with up to 4 additional antennas inside.
The blog also says the iPhone 5 will be coming sometime in the Spring of 2012, a complete departure to the release schedule we've previously seen from Apple. No specific details were mentioned on what that device will look like, or what kind of specs we can expect.
One more week...then the grain you see above will be transformed into...well...something that tastes a little fruitier.
